Manage your brain
It all starts by training and toning the one body part that you probably never think about — your brain.
Training and toning your brain re-engineers your neural networks. Networks that your brain has been building since your infancy and which define how your perceive reality. In a culturally diverse work environment, this perception of reality is the underlying cause of most workplace stress and discontent.
The Essential Knowledge co. helps you and your staff to understand how your brain sees the world. This allows you to build bridges between different perceptions of reality and to recognize unconscious and harmful thought habits.
Cognitive training is central to the improvement of every aspect of your business and personal life.
The following WEF article is an interesting read; it ends with the words… “they make it hard to really stand up and be the kind of leader we need to be right now — unless we know how to do it.” The Essential knowledge co. training programs are designed to teach you ‘how to do it’
“That’s the big word that neuroscience and business have in common — executive. What that means in both neuroscience and in business is planning ahead, keeping your focus of attention on goal-oriented plans and inhibiting responses, especially habitual responses that take you away from your long-term goals. That’s where neuroscience and business align.” read full article
Manage your reality
As a manager of people, you may often find yourself confronted with points of view that seem to you to be unrealistic. No matter how you may try to convince your employees to be realistic, you may often find that you are unable to make them change their minds.
This may lead to unpleasant confrontations and lingering stress in the workplace. This can be resolved by understanding how the brain perceives reality.
Our perception of reality is second-hand. Using information received from our senses and converting it to electronic impulses, the brain reconstructs the reality around us, inside our heads.
The problems in society arise when the information that the brain uses to reconstruct reality does not remain in an impartial and objective state; it is judged and filtered by the neural networks of the brain. Due to how our neural networks are constructed, through genetics, environment, socialization, and personal life experiences, each of our neural networks is unique. Because each of our neural networks is unique, each of our perceptions of reality differs slightly, and none of them mirrors reality exactly as it is.
When we ask our employee to be realistic, what we are asking them, in reality, is to accept our own perception of reality. As our perception of reality is as illusionary as that of the employee, you can start to see the impossible task we are asking of them.
Mental coaching allows us to become more objective and present, allowing for a greater overlap in how we perceive reality. This in turn allows for a more harmonious working environment
Manage your emotions.
Because we have not known how our brains work until fairly recently, most of us were never taught to use our brains optimally. This is the main cause of emotional friction and upset in our lives.
Through the work of neuroscience, we are discovering training methods that are simple and can be applied in the workplace to increase emotional intelligence.
The disharmony in diverse groups starts with our emotional reaction to events. Different events trigger different emotions. While our independent emotions are not unique. Our emotional triggers are. What is funny to one may be deeply insulting to another.
The emotional center of the brain is particularly receptive to cognitive training. In this training session, your staff will discover that their emotions are regulated by two pathways, the upper and the lower. Mainly we use the unconscious lower pathway, which results in an emotional response that is instinctive, reactive, and tends negative. The lower pathway regulates the classic fight, flight, or freeze reactions. The upper pathway is conscious and results in an emotional response that is considerate, proactive, and tends positive. The upper pathway regulates the higher emotions of tolerance, forgiveness, and empathy.
By using simply cognitive training techniques that can be practiced, and perfected, right on the shop floor, even the most diverse groups can learn to modulate and control their emotional response to one that is beneficial to all concerned.
Any brainstorming session, whether it is a boardroom meeting or a weekend think-tank is an endurance event for the brain; to achieve the optimal brain function during the event, the proper training, preparation, and pre-event behavior is as important as that for a physical event. When we are preparing for a physical challenge such as a marathon, we would not think to proceed without preparing our bodies optimally for the event to ensure the best outcome. In facilitating your brainstorming sessions, the Essential knowledge Co. ensures that all the individual members enter into the session with their brains fully primed, fit, and ready to tackle this endurance event with the positive mindset, stamina, and focus of a top athlete.
